Monthly Vision Board

A conceptual series for Habitual She

Curated by Claire Arceri with Habitual She

Do you ever experience a severe lack of inspiration? Like all the energy in the universe is working to not inspire you; Spotify gets it all wrong for your "Discover Weekly", Netflix has a million shows that aren't sparking any interest, your favorite magazines aren't even catching your eye, and (lord help) the Pinterest algorithm is not reading your mind either!! This happens from time to time and it can feel pretty cumbersome. I am an extremely observant person so my brain is in constant overdrive, focusing in on interactions, objects and how they influence what is around me....from the self-consciously personal, through an exploration of my place in the World, to the common search for meaning in life, and finally to a visionary expression of what all of this means to me. I feel this month's vision board is a testament to engaging with and encompassing not only the seemingly prosaic details of life, but also the artistry, contradiction, unity, and wondrousness woven within and beyond.

I wanted to share this poem that I came across that I thought was timely.

FOUND
By Frederick Buechner
From Lecture To A Book of The Month Club

Maybe it’s all utterly meaningless.
Maybe it’s all unutterably meaningful.
If you want to know which,
pay attention to
what it means to be truly human
in a world that half the time
we’re in love with
and half the time
scares the hell out of us…

The unexpected sound of your name on somebody’s lips.
The good dream.
The strange coincidence.
The moment that brings tears to your eyes.
The person who brings life to your life.

Even the smallest events hold the greatest clues.

Monthly Vision Board

A conceptual series for Habitual She

Curated by Claire Arceri with Habitual She

Today marks one year of my blog launch!! So Happy Birthday Habitual She!

It's going to be a Femme Fatale February! Currently inspired by Color Noir films such as 'Rear Window,' 'House of Bamboo,''The Man Who Knew Too Much,' and Leave Her To Heaven.' I have my work cut out for me on my movie watch list this month! For those that are familiar with Film Noir, Color Noir is its counterpart. {A LITTLE HISTORY} "Color film noirs were movies that followed the "film noir" style (flashbacks, the presence of femme fatale, crime theme, fatalistic, etc.) during the noir "Classical Period" (1940-1959) but, instead of using B&W film stock they were shot in color, often Technicolor. Color noir films after 1959 became known as neo-noirs."

This February, of 2018, I wanted to bring forth a Technicolor adaptation of a very feminine 'fatale' February. This month, I am drawn to bold, layered color, overlapping of textures, and lots of drama. I love the idea behind femme fatale because, as women, we all have the ability to be as equally strong as dramatic. Unlike the true definition of a 'femme fatale', my twist on femme fatale is not about manipulating people to get what we want (because that is bad..don't manipulate people..LOL) but using our clever, independent brains to problem solve our way through challenges that arise. To be bold as we go about achieving our goals. The beginning of the year usually brings its challenges, moments of stress, and unsolved problems but if we give our minds the okay to see our problems from various angles, it becomes less daunting and we can achieve many great things. This time of year, as a southern Louisiana girl (BORN & RAISED), I can always be inspired by the magic that is...MARDI GRAS! If you don't know what Mardi Gras is, Google it now! Its a time of pure celebration, jovial dancing, outrageous fashion and all around fun. My husband and I will be heading to his hometown of New Orleans to celebrate this year and I could not be more ready.

Hope you are truly inspired by this February's Vision Board by being the strong, bold and dramatic you there ever was. Laissez Les Bons Temps Rouler (Let The Good Times Roll),

Xx.

Beauty Heroes Box Valued at $105.00. Priced at $39.00.

PERSONAL NOTE

I have been anticipating products from Maya Chia for some time now, so when @beautyheroes launched their January Discovery, I was elated! I’ve heard through many natural beauty bloggers I follow, how much they adore and have seen amazing results from Maya Chia. The main ingredient is a high performance Chia Oil along with many other amazing ingredients.

{COOL FACT} Did you know that Chia oil has “the highest amount of antioxidants measured” amongst scientists and is clinically proven to significantly increase skin hydration, reduce trans-epidermal water loss and increase skin barrier function?

+For all skin types, even the most sensitive.

THE EYE ACHIEVER MULTI-CORRECTIONAL EYE SERUM

Expressly created to treat the delicate skin around the contour. It will revitalize, brighten, and restore firmness and resiliency while intensely moisturizing and protecting the delicate skin around the eyes.

MY REVIEW: This serum is going to be a staple in my lavatory cabinet. At the time this eye-correcting serum came, I was experiencing allergies followed by under eye bags and dark circles. Within the week, I noticed a difference in the appearance of my eyes. They looked more brightened and calm and rested. YES PLEASE!

*Allure Magazine called The Eye Achiever one of the best new fall launches.

*Vanity Fair highlighted The Eye Achiever as superfood for the skin and one of the most notable new natural beauty launches.

THE SUPER BLEND PRESSED SERUM

This is a multi-correctional moisture concentrate that helps to brighten appearance of skin, reduce appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and increase the look of skin firmness.

MY REVIEW: This is the most luxurious and unique serum I have yet to try (and I have tried so many amazing ones.) I love that it comes in a pressed or balm form, I feel you have more control over the amount of product used. (a little goes a long way) It absorbs quickly unlike 'oily-er' serums and spreads so smoothly over the skin. In the first two weeks of using, I felt my skin was firmer and more hydrated and its gotten better and better since I've kept using the serum. I find this is one that you can easily apply before makeup. As you may know, with some serums, applying makeup after a serum can be challenging. This one is great before makeup! Whats great is this line is perfect for even the most sensitive of skin. Definitely try this line out if you are looking for a new serum.

*Zoe Report names serum as an Editors pick.
*Vanity Fair named serum as one of the best face balms. .

Habits Beauty | Hair Resolute

Beauty Article for Habitual She

My 'Hair Resolutes' for this year is to incorporate more natural and organic hair care products into my habitual hair care. I am a firm believer in organic and non-toxic beauty products, although it has taken time and energy to find the right ones that actually work well if not better than the mainstream hair products.  The results I would get with some natural hair products was, at times, discouraging until I found the ones I'm going to share with you right now. I don't know about you, but I love my hair best when it is clean, shiny, manageable, and healthy. Below, I'll give you each product I have been using the past few months and some, the last year(s). Hope you enjoy!

CLEANING

IMG-1068.jpg
IMG-1076.jpg

To give a little backstory on my hair, I was diagnosed with a thyroid condition called Hashimotos in my last year of college. In all actuality, my hair started thinning and even had a couple of bald spots where I would normally part my hair. I was super down on myself because my hair was usually thick and full, now it was thinning and balding and I couldn't style my hair the same as I was used to. As my journey progressed, doing my research and seeing the right doctors, I was put on a prescription for natural thyroid hormones, along with food guides to heal me from within. I found that once I started taking the right medications and supplements, my hair started to grow but it still wasn't up to par with how my hair had been before.

That is where MONAT SHAMPOO came into the picture. I was first introduced to Monat by a family friend/ hairstylist in Louisiana who is a rep for Monat. She was giving away free samples and I was intrigued by the results her clients were getting with hair growth. Long story short, she sent me samples and I loved the products. I have been using the shampoo consistently for a couple of months and I have noticed my hair getting fuller and more vibrant as before.

The Shampoo contains no: Phthalates, PEG, DEA/MEA, Sulfates, Parabens, Harsh salt systems, Harmful colors, Harmful fragrances, & *Cruelty Free and 100% Vegan. {BUY SHAMPOO HERE}

This next hair product I am going to mention is my ULTIMATE FAVORITE hair product line that I have ever experienced. You have seen me post about them many times before for the simple fact of the products being 100% natural, organic and amazing. I have tried SO many natural haircare systems and have yet to come across a line so diverse and outstanding. So much that I question if this is too good to be true...lol! Because if you're like me, so many natural hair care lines leave your hair dry and straw-like, tangled and hard to brush through, dull and lifeless.

IMG-1077.jpg

INNERSENSE Organic Beauty is not the case. They have completely transformed my hair. I'm a natural Auburn, so my hair is made up of darker brunette and slightly courser hair strands, finer blonde strands, and medium red toned strands. Overall, my hair is fine but have a lot of it. So styling has been tricky in the past as most hair products weigh my hair down and leave it greasy and flat. No matter what salon I've been to, the more volumizing products they use, my hair gets flat. Innersense has allowed me to try numerous hair products that have changed me forever (Which I'll cover my most used products from them below.

So after washing my hair with the Monat Shampoo, I always follow up with the Innersence Conditioner. I go between the Hydrating Cream Conditioner and the Color Radiance Daily Conditioner. Even though my hair isn't colored, I find this color radiance conditioner keeps my natural color more vibrant and somehow makes all the colors of my auburn hair come through better. {BUY CONDITIONER HERE}

TREATMENT

IMG-1069.jpg

These treatment products are also from Monat & Innersense Organic Beauty. I have been using the Intense Repair Treatment for about 5 months now and using the hair masque for 1 month.

IMG-1074.jpg

MONAT INTENSE REPAIR TREATMENT: I use this treatment after I wash and condition my hair. I towel dry and part my hair in sections then spray evenly throughout as I massage in my scalp. I tend to focus on my forehead line where I want my baby hairs to grow. For some odd reason, this area has been the hardest for my hair to grow back from my Hashimotos.

I also apply this treatment to my eyebrows to help regrowth. Many times, when you have a thyroid condition, loss of hair in your eyebrows is 'normal'. I have noticed a difference in my hair growth in brows and hairline. It is a slow process but with thr right supplements, food and hair products, we will be okay! {BUY TREATMENT HERE}

IMG-1075.jpg

INNERSENSE HYDRATING HAIR MASQUE: This treatment can be used as often as you like although, I use hair masques when my hair needs that extra boost of hydration which isn't all the time. I find I need the extra boost once a week or once every two-three weeks depending on the season. I have now used this product twice and have been so amazed at its ability to hydrate and repair my split ends. I have done a bit of traveling this winter to drastically varying climates and my hair has shown me its unhappiness with it. This masque came to me as a gift in celebration of its launch from Innersense and just in time if I might add! I could not recommend this masque enough. {BUY MASQUE HERE}.

FINISHING

IMG-1070.jpg

GM REVERIE MILK | NOURISHING ANTI-FRIZZ TREATMENT: This product has been a staple in my styling routine for years. Its ability to control frizz and nourish simultaneously is what makes this product outstanding. "The lightweight formula also protects and moisturizes, leaving hair soft, silky, and shiny without weighing it down. Suitable for all hair types, Milk is infused with a rich blend of 16 essential oils that imparts a fresh, herbal scent that is beloved by men and women." I usually apply this after I use the wand to wave my hair as well as after letting my hair air dry. I find it controls the ends and tames my hair making it look put together without spending much time on it. Let's face it, sometimes we don't always have the time to manage our hair. This product can be applied to wet or dry hair. The nourishing ingredients included are derived from coconuts, olives, almonds, and other natural sources. {BUY MILK HERE}.

FORMULATED WITHOUT: SULPHATES, SILICONES, PARABENS, PHTHALATES, ARTIFICIAL FRAGRANCE, ARTIFICAL COLORING, GLYCOLS, PETROCHEMICALS, GLUTENS, ANIMAL DERIVATIVES, T.E.A AND D.E.A.

IMG-1071.jpg

Key Ingredients

  • Pracaxi Seed Oil

  • Dicaprylyl Carbonate
  • Chitosan Succinmide
  • Sweet Almond Protein
  • Olive
  • Amino Acids

Essential Oils

  • Rose, Bourbon Vanilla, Sandalwood, Patchouli, Lavandin, Bay Laurel, Sage, Spearmint, Fennel, Black Pepper, Ginger, Bergamot, Jasmine, Vetiver, Clove, Rosemary
IMG-1072.jpg

INNERSENSE SWEET SPIRIT LEAVE - IN CONDITIONER: I'm referring this to as finishing products because it can also be used on dry hair to revive or restyle. Sometimes, this is the only product I use after washing my hair. I love spraying this on damp hair after I have towel dried and before I brush through. Plainly put, this is the best de-tangler I have used and leaves hair nourished and prepares it for airdrying or blow drying really well. My tangles come out so quickly as well. {BUY SWEET SPIRIT HERE}.

KEY INGREDIENTS: Tamanu Oil, Organic Rice and Soy Proteins, Rosemary Oil, Honey, Lavender, Rooibos Tea, and Oregano.

IMG-1073.jpg

INNERSENSE HARMONIC HEALING OIL: I hope you are ready for the punch this product packs. It's one of those multi-use products that you want stashed away in your purse, in your carry-on for trips, and an extra bottle just in case. I use this product on my face, under my eyes (especially on flights as your eyes get so dry), on my hands, elbows, knees and yes, toes! haha! It is a great massage oil, and oil treatment for the scalp. I also use this on my hair...damp or after styling. You may be familiar with the Moroccan Oil? Well, this product does the same thing but is better for your hair and has so many added benefits. (This isn't a hate towards Morrocan Oil, I actually love it!) but this product, in my opinion, has it beat as far as quality ingredients and versatility. {BUY HARMONIC HEALING OIL HERE}.

KEY INGREDIENTS: Safflower Seed Oil, Evening Primrose Oil, Macadamia Seed Oil, Tamanu Oil, Hazel Seed Oil, Orange Flower Oil, Jojoba Seed Oil, and Rosemary Essential Oil.

This concludes my hair resolute. I hope you enjoyed in my sharing of my favorite hair products for the Winter season. As always, I would love to connect with you if you have any comments or questions regarding any of these products.

Xx.

No matter where you are in the U.S. we are all experiencing some crazy climates this Winter season. Some places are dry and frigid, some places arid and stagnant, other places are humid and freezing. What more would you need than a line of beauty products that target those ashy elbows, the scaly under eyes, and chapped face?

Khus + Khus was Decembers beauty discovery and I must say, the two products given were my travel buddies for the holiday season. In the box, they sent:

  1. BLEU BODY WAX -

Botanical Therapeutic Actions: Besides the most amazing intoxicating scent! This deeply nourishing, hydrating and luminous oil will create lovely, luscious, skin. Monoi de Tahiti sourced from France, an ancient Tahitian oil scented by the Tiare flower widely used among the French Polynesians for skin and hair enhancement.

+ Blue Tansy well known for its vivid blue color created by its azulene content which assists in its strong anti-inflammatory abilities. Works well in creating relief from sore muscles, strains, arthritis, sciatica.

+ Blue Yarrow highly prized for its antiseptic, anti-inflammatory properties which contribute to its great affinity with skin problems. Soothing irritated skin, good for eczema + sensitive skin that tends to have allergies.

+ Baobab oil high in vitamins A, E, and F and high in sterols making it an excellent anti-aging skin healing oil. Assisting in diminishing fine lines + wrinkles, reducing scarring and stretch marks. Non greasy and fast absorbing qualities.

+ Babassu a very emollient oil that quickly absorbs nicely into the skin. Works well on dry, and oily skin, it provides a protective barrier against environmental damage and pollution.

+ Marula oil this omega-rich oil has been used by African women for centuries, highly regarded for its anti aging capabilities, as well as high levels of antioxidants. A natural skin protectant of free radicals.

  2. SANS AGE FACE SERUM -

Botanical Therapeutic Actions: Highly anti-inflammatory with the ability to increase cellular regeneration.

+ Helichrysum oil is used in skincare because of its highly reputed anti-inflammatory activity. Recommended where there is inflamed tissue which needs to be calmed down + regenerated. Contributes to lymphatic drainage + detoxifying the body.

+ German chamomile is highly regarded for its soothing properties + anti-inflammatory properties combined with Helichrysum create one of the most potent anti-inflammatory blends. Creating healing for dry itchy skin conditions.

+ Both german chamomile, blue tansy have a vivid deep blue color due to chamazulene content a powerful anti-inflammatory active ingredient. Healing of burned, damaged and inflamed skin.

+ Rosehip Co2 + Sea Buckthorn Co2 creates smoothness and subtleness to the skin with decreased pore size. Highly anti-inflammatory, unique in its benefits, best known for its skin regenerating abilities. Works well on serious skin condition like psoriasis because it is high in Vit C, the antioxidant quercetin, and containing exceptionally rare omega7.

My tidbits on each...

DSC_3005.jpg

Once I get the product in my hands, I rubbed them together quickly (warming up the product and 'liquifying' it, then massaging it into desired areas. Honestly, I was very liberal in applying this product to my body as it felt so good on my winter skin, lol!

DSC_3012.jpg

BLEU BODY WAX: To my surprise, this body wax took some elbow grease to get it to budge out of the container. Being a wax, you have to warm it up by the temperature of your fingers. I also took a spoon to help get a bit of it out, then it was pretty easy to scoop from there.

SCENT: The scent is super herbal-y (if that is a word). The blue tansy notes are strong but not so strong as to overwhelm the senses.

OVER ALL: The Bleu Body Wax gets a thumbs up from me not only for its amazing healing properties listed above, but for giving this dry flaky girl some moisture and glow until my skin finally healed. My skin had to fake it till it made it..thanks Khus + Khus!

DSC_3004.jpg
DSC_3028.jpg

SANS AGE FACE SERUM: From the get-go, this serum literally took my dry face to a new and renewed level. What I noticed the most, was how calming this serum was for my slightly sensitive skin. My skin is sensitive to heat and can get red and splotchy even after a shower or bath. After cleansing my face, I applied this serum after for my moisturizer and I noticed the redness go down quicker than usual which was amazing.

SCENT: Much like the Bleu Body Wax, the scent is herbal, but with stronger notes of chamomile. I love this product for its overall soothing effect.

OVER ALL: This serum would be another product that I would recommend for men and women of all ages. I allowed a few of my family members to try it who all have different age skin and multiple skin types and all loved it.

Again, I really felt like this ingredients in this face serum calmed my face, and gave my skin a better canvus for makeup application. I felt my makeup went on smoother and saw less of my pores.

January Vision Board3.jpg

{PERSONAL NOTE}: Excuse me for being in remiss. The end of last month up until now has been quite a bit of a busy season for me and was unable to get many blog posts and content out for you. Isn't that the way of life though, sometimes? As much as I love meeting my goals and intentions, there are outside factors that simply do not allow you to meet every single one and there is beauty in that too. The past few weeks for me have been filled with family visiting for Christmas, getting a wicked ole' sinus infection that nearly knocked me on my feet for a week solid, to now finishing a week in Nashville with my husbands family to celebrate birthdays and anniversaries. There will always be times of the year that take us away from our goals and intentions and we mustn't get all flustered over it. So here goes my vision for January; a good week and a half into it...ENJOY!

Claire

December Vision Board.jpg

'Je suis comme je sui' ('I am what I am')

What gives certain people that 'je ne sais quoi?' {that thing that is inexplicable and sometimes can't find the words for}. Is it in the way someone appears, an esthetic to what they wear, or is it their personality? I would like to believe that the 'je ne sais quoi' has a lot to do with all of these things! The traits you develop over time, your style that took many trials and errors until you nailed your 'flair', the years of challenging situations that teach you the ins and outs of what make you, YOU! Theres that quote that "it takes two to tango" well, it really does. How we interact with certain people brings about this inexplicable chemistry. I'm not just referring to romantic chemistry, but chemistry we can develop in friendships, passerby, etc. We ALL go through developing chemistries on these levels. So with that said, can it be, that we all carry that certain inexplicable thing that is referred to as "je ne sais quoi?" I think so! You have that je ne sais quoi about you that is special and inexplicable, that thing that draws people in, that exudes hope, that is kind, that is sparkling and magnificent. It is who you are.

This December, let us be who we are, while we share in this beautiful holiday season. Use your 'je ne sais quoi' abilities to bring light to someone else who may not know theirs yet. Let your love open the door to hearts all around the globe.

Xx,

Claire
